What is Chiropractic Care

Athletic woman balancing in front of blue skyChiropractic care is a form of health care that focuses on the relationship between structure (the skeletal system) and the function of nerves, muscles and joints. Chiropractic care is built on the premise that the body has an innate ability to heal itself, given the right conditions. Consequently, chiropractors do not prescribe pharmaceuticals or perform surgery. They utilize the art of spinal and joint manipulation to address pain and joint dysfunction.

Chiropractors are trained as primary care physicians, but are mostly utilized as spinal and joint specialists. Chiropractors can examine and treat patients with any back, neck or extremity joint problem and will make referrals to other physicians if the problem warrants a second opinion or the attention of another specialty. Chiropractors can refer patients for any diagnostic testing or blood tests that may be needed to make a proper diagnosis of a problem.
